Medium accessibility

Barriers

  • Insufficient information on accessibility: online they only write that they have accessible toilets and that they have an elevator. They actually also have a wheelchair available to use, it is not listed online and I had called before and the front desk said they do not have a wheelchair. I only know that they actually do because an employee told me while I was giving a talk on accessibility there that they do in fact have one.
  • Located in a very busy touristic area: although they are within a good distance from public transportation you have to go through a very crowded street full of tourist attractions which feels unsafe to walk or bike down.
  • Long courtyard of cobblestone before entrance
  • Lack of online alternatives to exhibitions, conferences, and events: Providing an alternative to in person events would allow me to get a real benefit from this public institution when I am in too much pain or do not have the ability to leave my home.

Measures

  • Able to be quickly contacted by phone if I have any specific accessibility questions
  • Offers wheelchairs free of charge
  • Fully accessible building: if I plan to go during a weekday when I know they will have lower attendance I can fully access all of the museum’s exhibitions and facilities.
  • Honors handicap assistance programme: I can bring a helper on my visit free of charge.
